How much should I pay research participants as an incentive?

Answer a few simple questions about your next study to get a customized, data-backed incentive recommendation.

We've based our recommendations on data from nearly 20,000 research studies. You can learn more about the methods and data behind the calculator here, or dig deeper with The 2022 Research Incentives Report.

Are your ideal participants consumers (B2C) or professionals (B2B)?

Professional (B2B) participants—people you are recruiting based on their job title—have specialized expertise, are typically harder to recruit, and require higher incentives.

Is your study moderated or unmoderated?

In a moderated research study, a researcher (moderator) is present while participants complete tasks and/or answer questions. These methods are typically quantitative.

How long is each session?

Time is money. How much time are you asking participants to commit to your study?

Is your study remote or in person?

In-person research involves more travel time and effort on the part of both participants and researchers. These studies typically require a higher incentive.

What type of study are you recruiting for?

Select "Interviews" for 1-on-1 sessions that involve talking to users, including qualitative usability tests. If your study involves multiple sessions with the same participant or longitudinal methods like diary studies, choose "Multiday."
